a day of desserts—the irresistible french goods
11:33 AM
another reason why i love france: french patisseries are 10 times better than german.
hey, don't get me wrong. i do like some german stuff like apple strudel and rhubarb tarts (german pies, tarts and tartlets tend to taste better than french)but when it comes to cakes, specialised desserts, breads and decorations, the french (almost) always win.
when i was in wissembourg yesterday, i hardly ate any proper meal. the only not-sweet food i ate was a baguette sandwich i brought with from home.
i knew, it was so unhealthy not eating properly, but i really couldn't help. there were foodporns everywhere and i just wanted more and more (of patisseries ;)
first of all, french eclair. yum. yum. yum. it costed 1.45 euros a piece. i bought it and sat on the bench by the river, delicately consume the deliciousness. i promised myself next time i'd try vanilla one.
the place i chose was patisserie au petit kougelhopf.
what i liked about this place were that there were so many things to choose from and the prices weren't so expensive compared to other shops (i checked) plus the eat here and take home prices were the same so i didn't have to feel bad of i wanted to eat at the cafe and needed to pay more that the actual price of the food.
the only thing i didn't like was the atmosphere of the place. it wasn't bad though, but there were a lot better places around in the town.
strawberry mouse with fraise mouse, was a nice start (2.5 euros)
chocolate mouse with passion fruit mouse and nougat crust, my favourite of the day (2.5euros)
strawberries tartlets with cream. i liked the german version with a layer of chiffon cake and cream more though. (2.5 euros)
kougelhopf. i thought it was something famous or specialised here. turn out it was just sweet bread-like cake with almonds and raisins, topped up with icing sugar, was disappointed. (1.5euros)
mille feuille was a bit too sweet and creamy for my like, but still kinda okay. maybe the one with fruits might taste better (1.9 euros)
actually, there was a famous place here called patisserie robert. though the price was a who lot more expensive, and of course the sweet little goodies looked more appealing as well.
and i'll be back to try more things for sure :)
