walking through the woods
10:44 AM
i spent one of the best afternoons in england walking many miles, making bonfire and cooking in the woods.
and that illustrated how every saturday should be spent.

we first went to the heart in headingley, where there was an 'apple day' going on. it was my first time in headingley and this little part of leeds was lovely at first sight. range of charity shops and cafes on both sides of the main street. the event was fun and full of apples (of course!) freshly pressed apple juice was yummy, as were samples of 4 different types of apple cake from natural food store. there was music playing outside in the cafe/juicing, the sun even came out and played with us for a bit!
then of we walked on the meanwood valley trail. very soon after we set off, we were surrounded by green. and not just green grass but green trees! everything was so alive and nature was everywhere to the point that it was hard to believe i was in leeds.
this leeds wasn't the same leeds as the leeds i lived in last year.
we walked through meanwood park (which was ten times lovelier than hyde park/woodhouse moor) we kept on walking, talking and picking some delicious blackberries and elderberries along the way. until we reached our camping spot. we gathered woods and made fire.
fire!

this reminded me so much of my childhood, when i used to go camping with my parents, having bonfire and grilling potatoes
opposite to our 'campsite' was this green large field, and another field next to it full of sheep. we had a walk around, gathering woods and picking mushroom before returning to our glowing fire.

Joy, one of the green actioners who were with us, was preparing some veggies to steam on the fire. we also had some couscous, apples wrapped in foil, yummy chocolate bars and elderberry tea. and yes, we cooked everything in the fire!

the night was chilly but we were warm around the circle of fire, as were our hearts. we had a hearty meal together, shared conversation and gratitudes, and simply enjoyed the moment while it last.

after the night, i knew there has to be more night like this. it has happen more ofter...and possible with chocolate and marshmallows!
looking forward to the next one already :)
