nothing went as a plan, but i guess it never will for any other plans as well, so to say.

day 1

  • when we arrived, the weather was too good to be in the louvre, so we walked from the hotel to montmartre (yes, walked) and spent about 3 hours there
  • back to the hotel, checked in. then we walked to opera garnier and had a look at gallerie lafayette (which was literally filled with asians)
  • we planned to go to louvre next as it opened until almost 10pm. on friday, but there were too many people queuing up at the pyramid entrance and i didn't know where the 'secret entrance' was.
  • so we skipped louvre and went to notre dame. i hated the tent thingie that was in front of the dame, but it was stunning with the golden light of sunset. it rained a bit which made a rainbow visible over the seine river right by notre dame. how impressive.
  • we bought a carnet and took a metro back to hotel. it was the only carnet we bought since we walked more than i imagined.

day 2
  • bought a youth ticket to versailles. we didn't take an early train as i planned as my sister was exhausted, though i woke up at seven in the morning.
  • we arrived at versailles around 11am and need to buy a musical thingie ticket in order to enter the garden. suggestion: never ever ever go to versailles during weekends in spring/summer.
  • the line to enter the palace was long, but it moved quicker than i thought. they did not allow me to take any food in. suggestion: keep your lunch in some place that would be invisible. my host sister had it in her bag and she got it in easily.
  • now, if you come on weekends and the fountains are working, keep in mind that it does NOT work all the time. for example, two or three fountains worked for like half an hour until 11am. and all the fountains worked again at 3:30pm. and that sucked because we finished with the palace earlier and had like 3 hours until the fountains would work again.
  • parts of the garden were under construction, which was ugly, even when all the fountains were working. it didn't exceed my expectation of paying 8.5 euros for a bloody broken garden.
  • took a train back to hotel,  both of us were exhausted.

day 3
  • it was a sunny sunday. we walked from notre dame to pantheon, jardin du luxembourg, invalides until the eiffel tower. i bought too much postcards.
  • i waited in a line for ticket entering eiffel tower by stairs for half an hour, considered that it was a sunny sunday, i though that was quite a good deal.
  • i spent about an hour in paris, my host sister waited downstairs in the park.
  • we walked back and crossed a bridge to jardin du tuileries, sat on a laid-able chairs and sunbathed for about an hour. i loved it.
  • we ate at a japanese restaurant not so far away from notre dame (we planned for thai but it was closed) it was not traditional but still worth it.
  • we were gonna go on a seine river cruise afterwards but the bateaux parisiens cruises were all canceled for some reason. so instead of that we took a metro to trocadero. eiffel tower at night was breathtakingly beautiful.
  • took a taxi to hotel because it was late and the metro was kinda scary.

day 4
  • we were in louvre at around noon, by entering the 'secret' entrance next to the arc, we didn't have to wait a second to get in.
  • it was, however, crowded. we only went to see mona lisa and the venus. (i know that's lame, i could spend a whole day in louvre as well but i just didn't want to bore my sister more than i already had)
  • then we walked the champs elyssees, all the way to arc de triomphe. the arc was better than i thought it would be. huge and amazing and..........i don't know, but i loved it.
  • then we walked back to jardin du tuileries once more, and sunbathed once more. when in paris, do what parisiens do ;)
  • ate thai food, which made me feel like a was eating in thailand (ignored the price, that was a different story)
  • then we were on a vadettes sightseeing cruise. i expected it to be better than it was, but anyway.
  • the cruise finished at 10pm and we took a metro back to hotel.

day 5
  • checked out at 11am and went to notre dame, again. i thought i like it more than eiffel tower.
  • i climbed the notre dame (for free!) needed to wait for almost half and hour but it was totally worth it. i actually liked it more than sacre coeur and eiffel tower (but i like everything :)
  • ate the worst and best crepe in paris.
  • i was gonna go to sainte chapelle but it was CLOSED. gosh, only from 11am to 2pm or around that time. tip: don't save anything for your last day because it might be closed.
  • and then we went home...

now i just miss paris way too much.
